Well, I’m glad I waited.
A few days ago, I talked about how I both ordered and then cancelled my MacBook Air in separate blogs. Today that decision was proven correct. For just a little more than I had figured for my MacBook Air, I can get a new Pro for a little more. It means waiting till the end of the month until I can bump up my budget for it to really future proof it, but so be it. My MacBook Pro, it’s set up, and, let’s face it, learning how to use it can be my summer project.
As a long-serving Windows PC master race boy, I am finally taking the plunge and going to macOS. I have been running my iPhone, iPad Pro and Apple Watch together for a while now and when looking to upgrade, it just made sense to invest more into the Apple Ecosystem. I’m looking to branch out and get a little more creative as well. I have a podcast I want to produce, future Disney videos I want to film edit and upload, social media pictures to filter! Plus, change is good.
Fear not friends, now this decision has been made it just means when it is done… I start saving for a new PC as well. My current PC has been an incredible system for the past 6 years. But it is that. 6 years old. It is starting to show its age as it continues to drop frames on older games. I’m not a big PC gamer for current-gen titles. I basically play Star Trek Online and cell-shaded Steam games.
Back to the MacBook, my more technical minded friends will be able to advise me on this, but basically, these are the specs I am looking at:
- 2.0GHz quad-core 10th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
- 13-inch Retina display with True Tone
- Touch Bar and Touch ID
- Intel Iris Plus Graphics
- 16GB 3733MHz LPDDR4X memory
- 1TB SSD storage
- Four Thunderbolt 3 ports
- Backlit Magic Keyboard – British
- Accessory Kit
It seems (almost) comparable to my current PC set up without the dedicated GPU… I am running a GTX 745 though. We are now on the GTX 1650. Yeah. My system is starting to show its age.
Another positive, though, I got a new keyboard yesterday! A Logitech G213. The keys are soft and comfortable, and it has pretty backlit RGB keys. Throw a rainbow on something, and I am happy. Totally not living up to the stereotype or anything like that.
Anyway, moving on. A much more positive day. I have swapped up when I do my fitness during the day to help break it up a little. Today it worked well, will see if it carries on over the next few days.
Take care, stay safe and wash your hands! Liking these posts? Have you even read it? Drop me a comment, so I know my ramblings aren’t just going into the ether that is the internet.
